The Wood County Genealogical Society is housed at the Quitman Public Library, 202 East Goode Street, Quitman, TX located one block east of the Wood County Courthouse in downtown Quitman.

The society was organized in 1983, to provide a meeting ground for folks looking for ancestors. Members of the Society are interested in helping others to find “roots” in Wood County, Texas.
The Society celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2024 and is building toward the future!
Volunteer members are available at the library or by appointment (903-763-4191) to aid researchers with their family history.
The Society cooperates with the Quitman Public Library and volunteers of the library committee of the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Mineola Texas, in maintaining the society's genealogy research room which is housed at the Quitman Public Library - Quitman TX
